April 2012 golf outing report
April's outing was in Aviation Golf Club and was well attended with some exceptionally high scoring.
John Hickey made the most of the perfect playing conditions and ended up with a brilliant 44 points.
Peter Hickey wasn't far behind and took out second place with 41 points. Kevin Hahn was on third just ahead of Brendan McCahill on a countback with both finishing on 38 points.
Early days, but after three consistently good rounds Kevin Hahn tops the leaderboard on 112 points
Our next outing of the year is on at Helensville Golf Club on Sunday 20th May at 11am.
March 2012 golf outing report
This months outing was in Huapai Golf Club. It was a small but competitive field with all taking part scoring in the 30s.
Kevin Hahn won on 39 points. Gerry Quinn on his sharply decreasing handicap was second on 38 points and Richie Hayes made use of his increasing handicap to finsh 3rd on 37 points.
Just a reminder that playing the “Course conditions” rule was applied and will apply to all our outings this year.

February 2012 golf outing report
Our first outing of the year was well attended in Peninsula Golf Club, Orewa. It was an enjoyable catch-up after the holidays and we welcomed some new players. Mark Watts won on 40 points in a count back holding off last year’s champion, Ali Willis. It was good to see the experienced Tony O’Shea showing form claiming 3rd on 37 points in a count back from Derek Naughton. Congrats to Eamon Prendeville who won a prize for “most dramatic shot”!
The change of rule from “Pick and place through the Green” to playing “Course conditions” was well received. This rule will apply to all our outings this year.
Our next outing of the year is on at Huapai Golf Club on Sunday 11th Mar at 11.30am.
Our next outing will be in Feb 2012, expect details early Feb.
November 2011 golf outing report
We played our last outing of the year in good conditions at Maungakiekie. Ali Willis scored 42 points on the day to win the Irish cup, Rex Winborne was 2nd on an impressive 40 points and Jimmy Conway was 3rd on 38 points in a count back from Tommy Lavery and Richie Hayes. So all in all we had some great scoring. Ali also emphatically won Player of the year on 201 points (for best 5 rounds) thus averaging over 40 points, a feat not known to have been previously achieved. Ali caps off a great year of consistent golf with 3 wins and 3 other top three finishes. Thanks to all who participated and contributed to our outings throughout the year, happy golfing for the summer.
October 2011 golf outing report
We had grand sunny conditions for our October outing at Pakuranga golf club on a course which was well liked by all. It was great to have some rugby world cup visitors join us for a hit. Sean McCahill, enjoying his holidays from Ireland, quickly adapted to the local conditions and won on an impressive 41 points ahead of the pack of Lyle Reilly, Ali Willis and Padraig O’Gorman all on 37 points. Ali Willis now has an unassailable lead for golfer of the year. Some golfers seemed nervous about the All Blacks semi kicking off hours after our outing and it was reflected in their scores. Tommy Lavery managed to work through his nerves to shoot a steady round.
Our last outing of the year is on at Maungakiekie Golf Club on Sunday 20th Nov at 11.30am.
September 2011 Golf Outing
The weather and rugby celebrations limited the numbers at this month’s outing played at Redwood Park golf club. Ali Willis won on 34 points, Brendan Doyle was 2ndon 32 points, then Kevin Hahn and John Hickey both on 30 points. Ali Willis has increased his lead for “Golfer of the year” with 2 outings remaining.
Next month’s outing is at Pakuranga Golf Club on Sunday 16th Oct at 11.30am.
August 2011 Golf Outing
We had a very enjoyable outing played at Manukau golf club on a lovely sunny day with the course in great condition. Baz McKenzie won on 38 points, Vikki Bell was 2nd on 36 points with Nigel Wall 3rd and Mark Neville 4thboth on 35 points. Golfer of the year is total stableford points for best 5 outings of the year and with 3 outings remaining Ali Willis has shot to the top of the leaderboard on 182 points but closely followed by Peter Hickey on 181.
Next month’s outing is at Redwood Park on Sunday 18th Sept at 11.30am. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
July 2011 Golf Outing
We have a very enjoyable outing played at Pukekohe golf club on a lovely sunny day with the course in great condition after all the recent rainfall. Ali Willis deservedly won his first outing with 40 points, is familiar with podium finishes with two runner-up spots earlier this year. Yours truly (Padraig) and Brendan McCahill on 36 points, picked up the remaining prizes.
Next month’s outing is at Manukau on Sunday 21th Aug at 11.05am. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
June 2011 Golf Outing
This month’s outing was played in testing conditions at Helensville golf club, resulting in a few fair weather players retiring to the 19th early! While there wasn't a very big turnout we certainly had some great golf from those who braved the elements. Peter Hickey had a brilliant round winning on 44 points followed by Tom Lavery on 38, Anthony Watters and Kevin Hahn were third on 34 points.
Next month’s outing is at Pukekohe on Sunday 17th July at 11.45am. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
May 2011 Outing
The May outing of the Auckland Irish Golf Society was played in tough conditions and the results reflected the poor weather on the day. In saying that, 22 brave and enthusiastic golfers fronted up and enjoyed good company and a bit of friendly banter. Patrick Prendergast won on a count back with Vikki Bell second both scoring 34pts, while Lyle Reilly took out 3rd place on a count back from Alasdair Willis 4th on 33pts.
Our next outing is on June 19th at Helensville golf club.
April 2011 Outing
Our April outing was played at Aviation golf club in good conditions with a mixed array of golfers. Martin Conlon won on 39 points crowning his first outing as an official golfer. Ali Willis who took the runner-up spot for the second successive outing can empathise with Rory! Evan Taylor was 3rd on 36 points. It’s pleasing to see the ladies competition strengthening which Juanita Cranston won on 32 points. Vikki Bell is on now top of the leaderboard after consistent scoring in the first three outings of the year.

March 2011 Outing
Our March outing was played at Clarks Beach golf club on a lovely day. The good conditions produced great scores with Anton Watters winning on an impressive 44 points on a countback from Ali Willis, who is still wondering how he didn’t take top prize. The ever present Pat Prendergast was 3rd on an impressive 41 points. Vikki Bell won the ladies on 36 points..

February 2011 Outing
Welcome back to all after the holidays. We had a very successful 1st outing in February at Peninsula golf club with 32 golfers teeing off. John Lamberth won well on 42 points and Ken Healy continued his good form from last year to capture 2nd on 39 points. Peter Hickey finished 3rd ahead of the logjam on 37 points which Mark Neville edged out on a count back, verified by Gerry Quinn. Newcomer Samantha Collings won the ladies on 36 points.
Our next outing is on Sun Mar 20th at 11.30am in Clarks Beach golf club.
November Outing
Our November and very exciting last outing of 2010 was played at Redwood golf club. Pat Pendergast had 41 points to win the Irish cup for the 3rd time in 5 years. There was a return to form for Tommy Lavery 2nd on 40 points with Pat Bradley picking up 3rd on 39 points. The golfer of the year competition, which is best 5 rounds of the year, was very exciting with three golfers on same points total at the end of play. Ken Healy with the better round on the day was winner taking the Brendan Barry trophy in the closest finish possible from the consistent performers Brendan Doyle and Joe Boyle.
We would like to thank everybody who played during the year and we wish you and your families a Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2011 when we hope to see you and friends for some more entertaining golf.
October Outing
Our October outing was played at Peninsula golf club. The drizzly conditions didn’t affect the high standard of scoring with one third of the field playing above their handicaps. John Lambarth played exceptionally well and won on 42 points. Ken Healy was 2nd on 40 points and top of a bunch on 39 points were Peter Hickey and Gerry Quinn. Vikki Bell picked up the ladies prize with a season best of 39 points. The golfer of the year is now down to the wire and a first title is within reach for the three players at the top of the leader board. Brendan Doyle and Joe Boyle are equal at top of the table with Ken Healy 1 point further back. This should make our next outing at Redwoods a very exciting affair.

September Outing
Our September outing was played at Helensville golf club in blustery conditions. Ken Healy coped with the conditions well and won emphatically on 39 points. The rest of the filed were bunched and the best was Brendan Cooney 2nd on 34 points and David Nicolson 3rd on a countback from Eamon Prendiville and Lyle Reilly. Julie kept the Boyles on the podium picking up the ladies prize. The golfer of the year is being hotly contested and a first title is within reach for any of the four players at the top of the leader board. Brendan Doyle and Joe Boyle are neck and neck at top of the table with dark horses Ken Healy and Richie Hayes within striking distance after making late runs.

August Outing
Our August outing was played at Huapai golf club in good conditions. Joe Boyle won on 37 points making this a back to back victory and Joe’s 4th consecutive month in the prizes. Lyle Reilly was 2nd on 36 points with

June 2010
Our June golf outing in Pukekohe golf club was played in testing conditions. Brendan Doyle handled the wet and the wind well and won on an admirable 37 points. This is Brendan’s 4th consecutive month on the podium and has set the standard for “Golfer of the Year”. Joe Boyle was 2nd on 33 points and Kevin Hahn 3rd with 32 points. We are now half way through the year.

Our May golf outing in South Head golf club was well supported. Mark Neville made a rare appearance on the podium in recent times and took top prize with 40 points, Brendan Doyle claimed 2nd with a consistent 39 points and Richard Hayes returned to form to clinch 3rd with 37 points.

April 2010
Our April golf outing in Maungakiekie golf club was well supported. Kevin Hahn was the clear men’s winner on 39 points with Padraig O’Gorman on 36 points 2nd on a count back with Brendan Doyle. Congratulations to Sandy Taylor winning the ladies with 34 points.

March 2010
Our March golf outing in Aviation golf club was encouraging with the ladies numbers up. Congratulations to Julie boyle winning the ladies on an impressive 41 points and Vikki Bell 2nd on 31 points. John McGrinder was a clear winner in the mens on 38 points. The runner up places was very close with five men finishing on 33 points and a count back resulted in Brendan Doyle 2nd and John Lamberth 3rd.
